Men's laser hair removal

Concentrated light is applied to unwanted hair while ensuring the skin remains unharmed. This light is drawn to the melanin in the hair and progresses along the hair shaft, leading to damage to the hair follicle, which impedes future hair growth.

Please shave the area being treated one day before your Laser Hair Removal appointment. Long hair is not necessary (3mm growth maximum, except for the female facial area). If you have recently had a wax or epilady treatment, wait three weeks for regrowth and then shave the area 1 day before your Laser Hair Removal treatment. Avoid total sun exposure two weeks before and two weeks after laser treatment. Refrain from applying fake tan one week before your treatment.

  • It is recommended that soothing gel be applied for three days on the treated area.
  • Refraining from exercising or any activity that results in sweat for at least 24 hours is recommended.
  • Redness is a typical reaction after treatment and usually resolves within a few hours. In rare cases, it may persist for longer, but it is unlikely to exceed two days.
  • To prevent further discomfort, it is recommended to refrain from engaging in activities that may cause excessive sweating in the treated area until the redness has fully diminished.
  • Refraining from swimming in pools or spas treated with chemicals or chlorine until the skin has fully healed is recommended.
  • Afterwards, you can shower using lukewarm water, but it is best to avoid hot showers until the skin returns to its normal condition.
  • Wash the treated area with mild, unscented soap and gently pat it dry (avoid rubbing).
  • If crusting or swelling occurs, it is recommended that you apply a soothing gel and notify us promptly. It is essential to avoid picking at these areas as it can lead to potential infection.

FAQ

Unwanted hair is addressed using a focused beam of light, which is harmless to the skin. This light aims explicitly at the melanin within the hair, inflicting damage to the follicle, thereby obstructing the future growth of hair. Our medical-grade lasers, such as the Candela GentleLase Pro and GentleYag Pro, can efficiently treat a variety of skin tones, catering to the specific requirements of our clients and yielding the best possible outcomes.

Laser hair removal is most effective on darker hair. Blonde, grey, and red hairs are less responsive. If the hair has turned grey or white, laser hair removal will not work well in removing it. The effectiveness of laser hair removal depends on the laser beam attracted to the hair’s pigment. Grey hair has less pigment, and white hair has no pigment. As we age, our hair turns grey due to a failure in pigment production by the hair follicles’ pigment cells. This failure happens at different rates and can occur rapidly or over decades. The timing of the first grey hairs is mainly determined by genetics, with most men getting their first grey hair at the same age as their parents or grandparents. Factors such as smoking, thyroid disease, Vitamin B12 deficiency, and certain autoimmune diseases can increase the rate of greying. Caucasians usually start going grey in their mid-30’s, while Asians begin in their late 30’s. By age 50, half of men have a significant amount of grey hair. To maximise the effectiveness of laser hair removal in men, starting the treatment before too many hairs turn grey is recommended.

Using medical grade Class 4 lasers for hair removal is considered a medical procedure, not a beauty treatment. Both patients and operators need to wear specialised eyewear during the procedure. When performed correctly, it is considered safe, but there is a risk of skin damage and burns if cheap equipment is used or the operator is not qualified.

Topical anaesthetic creams are commonly used to numb the skin during cosmetic procedures, but it is essential to have medical supervision due to the associated risks, although they are rare.

The number of treatments needed for hair removal depends on various factors. Most clients see a significant reduction in hair growth after 4 to 6 treatments. However, some clients may require additional follow-up or maintenance treatments. Results can vary between individuals and different areas of the body.

If regrowth happens faster than anticipated, or there is no significant decrease in hair removal hair removal, then the laser treatment settings and expectations should be reevaluated.

Laser hair removal is not typically employed for men’s buttocks, yet it can significantly reduce hair thickness with just 2 or 3 sessions. Men suffering from pilonidal cysts, a painful condition arising from ingrown hairs, can find substantial relief through laser hair removal in this area. This ailment often affects young Caucasian men with coarse, dark hair, particularly those who sit for extended durations. Surgical intervention may be necessary if the cyst becomes infected. For recurrent pilonidal cysts, laser hair removal is a viable treatment option.

Athletes, including participants in aquatic sports such as swimming, water polo, and triathlons, frequently prefer laser hair removal in the groin region over shaving for its efficiency and reduced risk of rashes and ingrown hairs. Cyclists suffering irritation in the same area may also choose laser hair removal. Furthermore, some men opt for laser hair removal in the genital region, which, while safe and effective, can be uncomfortable due to the area’s sensitivity.

Men increasingly choose laser hair removal for facial hair. It’s adept at targeting precise areas such as the space between the eyes, around the nose, ears, or the upper part of the cheeks. Removing hair from the front side of the neck is also quite usual. Certain professions, like firefighters, prefer complete beard laser hair removal over the daily shaving routine. Men who experience chronic ingrown hairs in their beard region often select laser hair removal to circumvent discomfort, scarring, and an unsightly look. Individuals who are transsexual or undergoing gender reassignment surgery frequently desire to eliminate male-pattern hair from their faces.

Laser hair removal is frequently used to manage men’s facial hair, specifically in areas like between the eyes, around the nose, ears, upper cheek areas, and the front of the neck.
